What an ABSOLUTE DIASTER - and for some reason everyone thinks its good.
TL;DR - 0 Character development, Appallingly bad action sequences &art and 0 plot development. This is FILLER - not the continuation of Season 1. Even if it matters in the manga.

During this movie I feel like Denji & Makima watching the movies.
I felt indifferent about what was happening in front of me, waiting to feel something (because what the director was trying to make me feel was clearly not working) and then the credits played - and I was left wondering what the heck I just witnessed.
My Disappointment insurmountable and my 3 year ... wait is ruined - especially after how good season 1 was.

This anime lacked EVERYTHING that made season 1 so good....

1- There was absolutely 0 character development between the beginning and the end of the movie (for any character) besides Denji falling head over heels for Reze and now "OMG I LIKE 2 GIRLS NOW" - that's literally it. Their relationship and all their interactions felt inauthentic & rushed (even for a movie's runtime).
2- The art style change is polarizing, I think it went from detailed & polished to a child's cartoon. But that's personal preference.
But what is NOT is
3- The action in this movie is a absolute letdown & total garbage. Season 1's action was crisp & detailed and you could follow the action that was going on in front of you. This movie was directed by Season 1's action director so I had high hopes - but nope. Imagine a Marvel movie with all the nonsense on the screen and you can't tell who's fighting or doing what - now do that x1000. I could not tell a single damn thing that was happening in the fights- just the screen lighting up in a bunch of different colors with minimum character detail and actually 0 background art- it just looks like they're fighting over a solid color background. The fighting in this was so mind numbing besides the bright explosions. BOOM.... I guess
4- Nothing actually HAPPENS in this movie - this felt like it had 0 weight in the grander scheme of things and feels completely unnecessary to the greater plot of chainsaw man (possibly by design), when it clearly should have.
Actions have 0 weight, fights felt like they had nothing on the line - everything was kind of just happening. All the conversations the characters have between one another feel like they hold no weight or will even be brought up again.

NOW - to a casual movie goer who faintly know of CSM - this is probably a good movie. Lots of loud noises and bright flashing lights, little bit of ecchi. BIG W.

But if you're coming into this as a FAN OF CHAINSAW MAN and want to pick up where season 1 ended - just skip it. There is no value in watching this movie. There is no progression forward,

Denji falls for girl name Reze, they flirt around and stuff - NOW HE LIKES 2 GIRLS OMG!!!!. Anyway She is actually a bad guy like denji (except bomb devil instead of chainsaw) - wants to get denji's heart to the gun devil. They fight - explosions everywhere - then he just lets her WALK FREE after 30 minutes of fighting and countless civilian deaths - then Makima kills her. The end

This has got to be one of the most boring things, of any genre or medium of entertainment. All the story consists of is the MC talking about how AMAZING and how great of a hero he is, whilst never demonstrating WHY that's true. He is a boring "Know it all".... The whole plot consists of him solving stupid petty issues and helping the demon army become more efficient.

Its an absolute snooze fest. There is NO plot to be had here making it DOA. No action, no genuine laughs, just..... mansplaining.

No one is fun in this manga. Every character is flat and boring, ... with no interesting traits.
The art is passable at best. Just... dont read this.

This is is the PINNICLE of what many otaku have been begging an Anime to do for AGES - GIVE US A MC WHO IS ACTUALLY A GIGACHAD. This MAD MAN Got the girl in the SECOND F**king episode - WHEN HAS THAT EVER HAPPENED BEFORE? Never.

He has officially put all other MC's on suicide watch.
The king of MC Incels has arrived.


*Now his actions are repulsive, and I'm hoping he fully get's what he deserves. No one is a winner when it comes to revenge and I'm wondering if this anime can demonstrate how revenge twists and warps your mind.*

Another interesting thing about ... the series is I feel this show REALLY pushes the envelope when it comes to it's content too. I don't think I've ever seen a proper anime adaptation this crazy before. I'm really curious how this will play out, epically with western audiences.
