First things first, I want to say that I have read the light novel before I watch this show. So, most things I will review is about the adaptation itself. Despite saying that, I still will try to review the show as an anime though I can’t promise it much.
Madan no Ou to Vanadis is a show about a Vorn named Tigrevumurd of a small village name Alsace that is involved in a civil war as a major commander. He asked help from a Vanadis – A warmaiden whose power is said equal to a thousand soldiers – named Eleonora Viltaria from another country.
...
Each of Vanadis wield a supernatural weapon, a Dragonic Tools which has their own specialty. This show follows Tigrevumurd or Tigre’s adventure as he defeat each of his enemies.
Madan no Ou doesn’t has a strong premise for me. A special boy who then involved in a fight and get help from a girl is not a rare premise in nowaday shows. But, what makes Madan no Ou special is how a war and political power plays in the story. You can’t just outplay the enemies in a war by just outnumbering them, history has proved it that tactic and strategy is a deciding factor. I love how the anime shows us the overview of the battle by using a chess-like piece that is put on a map. It is easy to understand the strategy from Tigre and the flow of the battle in a big view by looking at it.
Despite the creativity by using the a chess-like piece to explain the strategy, too bad the story pace is really fast. The battle tide which is quick to change make it worse to follow the story. In additions, the fast pace of the story make it hard to know how the dialog of the character can change the war itself. As I said before, Madan no Ou is special because how politic works there. It is hard to know the political power of each character because of the fast pace dialog and the cut on the material if it’s not bad enough.
I quite like the design of Tigre. Simple is best. On the other hand, Vanadis’ design is quite boring. Though it is good, it can not be said as a great design. The antagonists’ design, like Thenardier or the wizard is actually beyond my expectation, they’re great. The animation on battle is really good, it’s clear where they put all of their budget on. Too bad even with good animation, lazy drawings ruin it all. There are several scene where the characters proportional is not balanced and few drawing where the characters posture is weird, especially on battle scene.
Opening and ending song is really what you’ll expect on an action shows. Both of them are nice, really make the mood to watch and ending the show. Then, we have well-made BGMs which make a really great watching experience. And I have no complain how the voice of each character, the VAs really did a good job.
As I said before, the dialog of each character is too much compressed. As a consequence, I think we won’t know how the nature of each character really well. The interaction feels a little forced because of it. Fortunately, it’s just the nature of the side characters that didn’t come out well. The main characters’’ nature like Tigre, several Vanadis, and Thenardier can be understood to some extent. Interaction and reaction between main characters at least reasonable.
I enjoy this series as a whole. Though a fast pace story really ruins it, I love some other aspects such as how good the soundwork and great animation. I don’t think the anime make this series’ charms come out. Despite how I want you to read the light novel rather than watch it to know the charms of this series, I still recommend this anime to you who love action.
Thanks for reading my review.

As I just watched BTOOOM! about 3 years after the initial episode, its premise is actually a common theme of most series. Yes, about a NEET that is somehow trapped in a situation where their life at stake. It's so common that I even need to think twice or thrice to take such a show because there's a common follow-up of the series. It become a comedy that forget how the pinch in their life and in the last episodes, the situation become so dangerous that make the episodes before is a summer breeze. And how about BTOOOM!?
BTOOOM! take a nice approach by using a
...
survival game as its core, a common thing of how Hollywood action movie/series. But, it didn't forget that it's an anime by using a game and NEET theme. It's quite a good start. As the story goes, BTOOOM! take us to know how the game works, how the mechanism itself, and how the rule-I think it's important to do this as a survival theme because we can't just let a guy die without a reason, right? Too bad, there are several detail that's somehow is quite bothering. One of them is how the 2 years-NEET protagonist is somehow can do all the run and action with a good stamina. Though, I was indifferent about it after several episodes. As the ending come, I think once again that this show is really using Hollywood recipe of action movie. Win against an enemy, got a friend, a betrayal, then closed by a kiss scene with the heroine. And I think they brought it well.
I love how the character design made without using a moe-style too much. And that design is quite good to take this series seriously as survival theme. Though, there are several gap between design of a character to another. Next, I like their action scene even after they didn't use CG to do the bomb explosion. I actually expect some CG on the explosion, but a hand-drawn couldn't be said as a bad artwork. As a whole, the artwork is good.
The sound work isn't really notable. I feel the explosion of every bomb is same regardless of the power. The BGM is not that bad, but it's isn't good either to feel a thrilling from the tense situation.
The character is quite bad for me. How the character interact, their questionable development, even how a weird conclusion of a certain episode is still bothering me. Despite that, the development of the protagonist is good. Though at first it's questionable how he's a jerk, but I love how he has his own ideal to do a thing, how he realize how jerk he is and know the reason of it, it's good to see how his development in later episode is.
Overall, it's a good series. It's a good watch to see how a jerk become a hero and how the action scene goes with explosion despite a bad work on it. I would like to recommend this series to everyone who love an action with a good development on protagonist.

Chuunibyou or eight-grade syndrome has gained quite popularity for quite time. Though it never come as a main theme, at least several well-known series has a side character who is Chuunibyou. Chuunibyou has rather vague theme, where involving it may betray with the character itself. But there is a good series that can overcame that obstacle, named Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai. After its success, we get another Chuunibyou main theme series this Fall 2014, Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de (InoBato).
Inobato tells the story of four high school students plus an elementary school children gathered at a club and then one day, they get
...
supernatural powers. But, what good is this power if there is no problem that needs to be solved with it? This series tells about the daily activities of that ‘special’ children. Oh, did I tell that one of that children is Chuunibyou? It’s interesting to follow how the Chuunibyou’s reaction get their dream come true.
The existence of the premise of ordinary people with superpowers is the strength of this series. This premise is also used well during the first episode and strengthen the premise of the story. In addition, the background story of each character is also interesting and do not deviate from the initial premise. I liked how the story has quite good pace to be followed, not fast nor too slow. However, the presence of war in this series somewhat weakens the story. This is due to the absence of further explanation of the background of the war itself. I can understand this because the series is adapted from the light novel. But, in the absence of this explanation makes me hope for a second season of this series to explain further about this.
The addition of the genre from romance to the harem slightly weaken the already strong premise. I can accept the existence of romance in this series, but harem theme in this series does not make me sympathy. Maybe it's because of my resentment towards harem theme itself, but it feels the harem doesn’t make any good to the story. In addition, it also weakens some character trait that is from the beginning has been generic. Fortunately, this harem theme does not appear in every episode.
Inobato has a line of generic characters. It is good enough to further strengthen the premise of the ordinary people. Although classified as generic, the character trait of this series is quite strong. The interaction between the characters is quite interesting, also bring their own entertainment. Unfortunately, there is no character development in this series except for the background story of one of the characters if my memory serves me right.
One thing that you could not forget, a babble in an episode of one of the characters in this series, Kushikawa Hatoko. I appreciate it because it is very powerful babble that strong enough to be able to raise the status of the character of the side characters become the main character.
Regarding art, I love the character design in this series. Though it might not be unique, it’s lovely to see the girls’ design. It’s a pity that Andou Jurai’s (the MC) design is plain, unlike the girls’. Another note is Studio Trigger made a good job about the animation. Though the design and story aren’t Trigger-like, Trigger studio bring their own style to the animation, like skipping frame battle animation and old style animation. I love how they bring the comedic scene and how every battle scene goes with their animation style.
The OP and ED songs itself is quite good, though not the best. I’ve never skipped even once their OP and ED because of the atmosphere it brings is suitable to the series. The background sound has no impact for me, I don’t think you will miss it if there are no background sound there.
As you watch this series, you might find yourself wondering how this series could come from a studio like Trigger. Though it’s not like they do a bad job, it isn’t their best form. But, in a different approach, I find that Inobato is a quite nice series. It has a great story, a decent characters, and quite good art though the lack of good background sound not made it best. But still, I would recommend this series to you who love slice of life with some romance.

Hitsugi no Chaika as a quite phenomenal series with the main character, Chaika, back with a second season. Still using the same theme in the first season, we were taken to see Chaika collect the pieces of her father's corpse despite the doubts and the mystery behind the Chaika herself. Accompanied by Tooru Acura and Akari Acura, also loli dragon Frederica, this second season solves up various mysteries that were encountered during the first season.
With the use of the same themes in the first season until the third episode, we were taken to Chaika adventure in finding the heroes who have the pieces of her
...
father's body. The story began to focus on the mystery during the first season on mid-fourth episode. Still the same as the first season, the series is still using a fast tempo story. Luckily we can still enjoy the story though there are details that are missing, the same as the first season that lost the important details of the story.
I think because of the fast tempo, the end of the story feels end quite suddenly. A king is said to be the greatest wizard and has been in power for five centuries was defeated by his own goods in about 1 hour time story. I feel it can not be matched by the development of the strength of the main character. In addition, there is a "betrayal" by a character with unreasonable reasons. There is no scene that implies that the reason given is a reasonable.
Despite the weaknesses that exist in the story, the character traits of the characters in this series is quite satisfactory. Additional character in the second season brings a new atmosphere in the story. In addition, the mystery of the few characters solved properly with reaction of those characters when they knew the truth. In the final battle, it can be felt the flashbacks that were given very illustrate what has been passed by Tooru for this two season.
In addition to the characters, the animation is displayed quite nicely. It’s quite obvious that there are additional budget in the battle animation. However, it is not matched by the quality of the art even after how they did the first season. Depictions of "derp face" that exist in the first season are still widely seen in the second season. In addition, there is a mistake in the second episode when Chaika fall with her Gundo. All of a sudden, the Gundo disappeared from her grasp and the next scene is shown that Akari bring the Gundo to Chaika. Also, the coloring of the character in this series does not really represent the darkness of the story. It is quite unfortunate because the designs of new characters there are very brilliant in describing the atmosphere of the story.
There is nothing special about the music in this series. The opening song sung by Iori Nomizu still have the atmosphere similar to the opening song on the first season. Similarly, the closing song too. Background song also did not have anything special. Quite good for the action series like this, but can’t make me amazed.
Although with the reproachs that I gave, I quite liked this series. The absence of important details on the story and how the picture did not deter me to watch this series. I have always been loyal to watch this series every week to look forward to a variety of characters and also with the mystery solving. I am not so disappointed with the end of story, although I am a bit curious about the fate of Chaika memory. Hopefully this is discussed in the OVA.
I can say that this series is quite interesting to watch. The mysteries are quite interesting although not all the mysteries solved in this series. Also, the character are very entertaining and made me look forward to this series. I would recommend this series to you who like action series with spices of mystery and stories.

I didn't have any bad experience with P.A Works before. I had watched Nagi no Asukara and Hanasaku Iroha. NagiAsu is exceptionally a masterpiece and HanaIro, though it's not really good, it's not really that bad too because of the great art and a decent story. But, Glasslip as the P.A.W. latest work didn't come as my expectation.
Glasslip came with an unique synopsis. It told you about the daughter of a glass artisan family, Fukami Touko. So I thought it would bring you some glass work and several trivial things about it, like HanaIro did. But it didn't. It's such a good example of deception.
But,
...
I thought it's okay because many series have done something like that, as example recently is Rail Wars!. So let's see about the story first. At first, it came really good. It had same recipe as its predecessor, an unrequited love. It's really good, very good. Until the "fragment of future" came as the main topic here.
To be honest, till this day, I don't know what "fragment of future" is. It came to the person like Fukami Touko and the suck MC, Okikura Kakeru. Somehow, they're like people with Schizophrenia. It became the main topic in the later half, but somehow it's a biased topic. I hate it, they should just focused on the unrequited love instead of it. It's one of several turn-offs of the story. I won't tell another specifically, but as a summary, I hate them all.
The art is really good, as expected of P.A.W.. It's one of the reasons why I took this series. The character design is quite nice, not really good though. The animation is not really good. You might find yourself wondering why there are only a person talking in close-up. It is maybe the trick to saving their budget. Another point, the background is really good, as usual of P.A.W.
OP and ED is the best things here. You should hear them without watching the series. ChouCho and nano.RIPE did a good job with this part. Can't complain with this.
Character is another turn-offs for this series. There were almost no interaction between the characters other than the determined pairs. The only connection between each pairs is through side characters, which make them the shining one instead the main characters. Because of it, there was no development, and even if there was a development that I missed, it must be a slow one. The characters itself without the interaction were really annoying, especially the boys. Okikura Kakeru with Dissociative identity disorder and Imi Yukinari with his own ego and couldn't even fight for his love. The good boys is only Shirosaki Hiro with steady characters. I love his characters more than the other main casts.
I really couldn't enjoy it at all. The slow development of both story and characters never make it better. I could only enjoy both of the OP and ED, it's the only relaxing part before the story but it still couldn't help the series.
Glasslip came as a promising series. It come with a good art and character design, an unique synopsis, and a line of the senior voice actors. It was a promising series, but too bad it couldn't use any advantage it had. The turn-offs in this story was really much that it couldn't be helped with the advantages it had. Do not touch this series at all, except you're prepared with the story and bad characters.
Thanks for reading this series.

At first, I thought I saw a season 2 of Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin as the synopsis is almost identical. And I thought it would be a same plot as Nanana. Turn out it's wrong. Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!? is a really great romcom series. Unlike most romcom series I know, Rokujouma is not your usual romcom. Usual romcom made the girls somehow have to cling to the MC to shows her characters. But Rokujouma isn't like that. I had only found this unlikely romcom pattern only in Haganai.
Rokujouma started with your usual romcom start. It doesn't start really good for me. But as the story
...
went, it come really great. Each of the harem has their own 'route'. Each of the route really came really great: a good pace with the plot, how each the problem solved in every episode satisfied me, and how I wonder how the story would turn out, everything is made well. I can't complain about it.
The art is really good, not any lazy drawing there. There are some 3DCG there and it isn't unnatural to see the animation. The character design is one of the selling point in this series. The variation of character design is really amusing. I can't complain in this part too.
The OP and ED is your stereotypical OP and ED for a romcom series, a cheerful song as the OP and a good ending song. Too bad it's just good, not great or the best. The BGM is quite good, it matched with the story mood.
The character is another great point in this series. You have the cheerful ghost, tsundere alien princess, a good-manner and well-endowed princess, and the clumsy but helpful magic girl. It might filled all of the fetish you have. The heroines is really a set of romcom heroine you might find. But, it's still amusing to see them. The main character is really good, he really deserved to be harem king with all of the harem king traits. But, what the best is actually the side characters. The senpai, the landlady, even the alien assistant is really amusing characters. I feel like they all invade my heart here. lol
I really enjoy this series, every part of this series is really lovely. There are flaw, I knew it, but it didn't ruin the experience. There are several times I came as happy as the characters there. It's great experience to watch this series.
As this series came to the end, I really wish there are another season for this series. It's not your everyday romcom and with every aspect is well made. I really recommend this series to you who wants a refreshing romcom with a good character, great story, and wants to enjoy every aspect of it.
Thanks for reading my review.

To be honest, I don't know how I should explain this series. Tokyo ESP is one of action series which I took because of the action genre only. As the series first made, my expectation is it would become a little good because of the promising almost-ending scene in the first episode. But, as the series went, my expectation came down and almost drowned into the deep of the sea with the ending.
Tokyo ESP is a series which told us a normal high school girl and got a special ability. The girls then become a hero who tried to save the town from another special
...
people. It's cliche premise, but I was hoping the plot would be different. It turned out I'm wrong.
I hate the story most than another part. Many mystery at first, but a half-baked finishing for the mysteries. Not only the premise is cliche, the plot is really cliche too. The plot is a mess up, you might find it's so boring because of the repetition of same reaction of the characters. The ending is really bothering, because in my opinion, you won't need all of the 11 episodes just to reach the final plan of the antagonists.
Another boring part of the story is how the action came. The action is really messing up with you because of the unresolute main antagonists. The main antagonists would make you dejected. I don't know how many time I were punching my desk just to watch the another unresolute desicion of the main antagonists. I hate how the antagonists made. The reaction of another side character such as one of the main character's mom is really made the series worse. It's okay if the mom's reaction like that, but I didn't get how the development of this character can made her changed. It really turn off the series, she should have never made into one.
Despite how bad the story and how the character not made well, I quite like the art. The art is one of the reason why I was choosing this series. The art is solid and use a good coloring. The background is made well. The art is good overall, but not the best.
The OP and ED is quite good. The ED give you a little sense of gore of the series, a quite true if there were no sensor there. I don't think bad about the BGM, I think it's fine as it is.
Because of the story and the characters, I don't really enjoy this series. Several times I wanted the story ended quickly, I was tired to see the character.
Tokyo ESP is a good example for a series with bad plot and the bad character. It can't be helped even with the art or another good part in this series. For you who want to watch a mediocre action series, this series is for you.

Rail Wars! is a series which says would mainly discuss about train. As I thought it's quite interesting to see a series with unique main theme, I took this series. It turned out quite wrong if you want to come and see a train in this series.
As I previously mentioned above, it's a train series. It came with a good premise but deviating plot. The series follows Takayama Naoto, a boy who wants to be a train driver. But, he couldn't do that and instead, he entered as a trainee in the Railways Security Force. There he met some of his harem.
The story is quite
...
amusing, but it's boring. It's amusing because of the offer of the girls' action there in resolving problem on train security. It's boring because repetitive usage of same plot in every arc/episode. In almost every episodes, we got some problem. Then as the main character, Takayama used what his best to solved the problem, but it didn't help. Then the harem came to rescue. It always used the same recipe.
One of the reason why I took this series other than the deviating theme is the character design. I really love the character design, the budget really comes in a good way. It is probably the best character design in Summer 2014. But, it's a let down to see the animation didn't come as great as the design. Sometime, you might find a silence and staring character without doing anything for one or two seconds. It's quite disappointing. Otherwise, I love the 3D animation to be used on the train movement.
The OP and ED is quite nice, I like them especially ED. Probably they're the outstanding parts on this series. The soundtrack they are used isn't that good but it's not bad either. At least, it sounds quite matched with the story flow.
Character is another good part in this series, as it's harem series. The girls side are really good, you might find yourself in one of their fans. The boys, too bad they didn't come out as good as the girls. Sometimes, you might find the boys are annoying, as they (or maybe only Takayama) wouldn't do anything notable other than charmed the girls in unnatural way and the girls somehow fell for it. Another note is there is almost no character development, especially on the main characters.
I'm quite enjoyed with this series as this series come in a amazing design. But, sometimes I'm annoyed with the bad reaction to the situation ahead of characters and how the girls fall for Takayama's action. Well, it's a harem series after all.
Rail Wars! come as a quite fair series with outstanding art and good character, but too bad the story didn't come as good as the other parts. This series is for the one who come for the story, but stay for the girls. For the closing, a great quote to follow this series is maybe the one from Bill Gates, "If you can't make it good, at least make it look good."
Thanks for your time to read this review.

Zero no Tsukaima can be called as the first series which success the fantasy harem genre series. And now every series with the same genre in each season try to follow its success. One of them is Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance (Blade Dance) for Summer 2014.
Blade Dance is just your typical harem series. The MC is the only boy with the ability whose only girl can only wield, just like IS. And the story went as oh I found an enemy, let's the girls fight and I will help too. Oh, don't forget some unnatural ecchi scene. It's the same recipe. Even there are
...
some unfinished business at the end. Overall, the story is bad.
The art itself, though it's not really good. There are some blurry detail there. The animation isn't really good too, but it's still can be enjoyed. I won't bother with character design because it's your usual character design. I love the design of the monster though, it feels quite cool. (Edited) I find it's quite disappointing as they didn't use the 3DCG for all of their monster action. It's quite good to see the only 3DCG in the last episode.
I like the OP and ED. They did a good job to bring the OP and ED song to be a quite easily remembered. The background song is quite matched with the daily day scene as well as the battle.
For the character, I love them though it's the usual recipe. The tsukomi MC and the innocent ladies. The antagonist girl in every episode but shrouded in mystery. Oh, and don't forget the Sword loli. She's the star. ;)
As the enjoyment, I found it's quite disturbing too see the art and ruin the enjoyment the most. As I reach the last episode, there are too many unfinished business. What a let down.
As I love the fantasy harem series, Blade Dance is your usual fantasy harem without any great difference between another series with the same genres. There are too many unfinished business which make the series need another season, but I'm pessimist if it's good enough to make one.
Thanks for your time to read this review.

Idol is a war. Oh wait, it's a wrong series, lol. But, it's still a same theme as that series as this one is an idol series. Futsuu no Joshikousei ga [Locodol] Yatte Mita, abbreviated Locodol is a series which tells us how the normal school girls can become an idol. Though idol, they re just a local one, so how shine are they in their own locals and their own self?
A story which tells us a normal school girls who somehow become an idol is one of the cliche story of most series we have today, so it's not really a promising premise. But,
...
as the series went, it has proved its existence as it's not your everyday normal idol series. Unlike WUG or iM@S who are using the talent agency as their promotor, Locodol used the local government as their only supporter. As its own purpose is to promote their own local specialties, they shouldn't have many fanbase as the one from talent agency as their work itself not promoting the idol. But, once again it has proved their own strong point as the local idol. The pace they show to us isn't that fast, but sometimes a little slow and made their story a little boring sometimes. But, it has a good pace in last half though.
The character in this series is focused on a pair of our idol and a pair of our clown (or mascot wearer, or whatever terms you like. I'll use this one). There are also another character, such as manager, rival idol, etc. The character itself isn't that variance. Almost all of them start with a timid character, then developed into a great idol (and clown), which is a little monotone. Though, in some later episode, they show their own character. Overall, it's a so-so.
The art itself is quite bold, but good at the first episodes. Though its quality is dropped at mids, then show a quite good quality again. The one I should appreciate is the scenery background. Though it's not the best, it's quite nice to see a good scenery in a village. For the character design, I like it. It's your everyday design, but nicely done.
As an idol, it's a let down to see their songs can be qualified as few. Without OP and ED, the songs total is three, "Ah~ Nagarekawa!", "Uogokoro-kun Song", and "Nagarekawa Girls Song". The first two song can be considered as a lame song for idol, but it's quite matched with the local theme which make it good. The song is really easy to remember and maybe after you watch several time they"re singing it (yup, "Uogokoro-kun song" is the most played song in this series after OP and ED) you'll sing along with them as I was. "Nagarekawa Girls Song" is quite an idol song, it's quite attractive and have a same charm as OP and ED songs. It's well made, though it's still a few for idol series.
I really enjoyed this series. Though I didn't particularly wait for this series in each week, I really enjoyed this series as I watched them. But sometimes, I found it quite a boring to hear the same song after a while.
The local idol series has come to the end. As its enjoyment surpassed my expectation, it's a good idol series. A good one, but not a great, or the best. For you who wants an enjoyment over the story, I would recommend this idol series to you.
