Animation and sound track are peak as always and we already got a few interesting character moments in these first few episodes but I don't know if it's the directing or the pace but I feel like the scenes don't flow into one another as well as they did previous seasons.
I really like the more experimental directing of the first 2 episodes, even if they still had, in my opinion, some weird transitions, but the cinematography and artsy approach worked well to set the scene in the aftermath of S2. On the other hand, ep. 3 and 4 felt somewhat jumbled, like we got cool animation and cool moments but they felt more like a youtube compilation of cool scenes rather than a flowing narrative, especially ep 4, which is a shame because I love Maki to the death and I was looking forward to see that part in the anime.
I understand that following season 2 is though since that was JJK at its finest but I still can't shake the feeling that something is not clicking the same way this time around.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a very, very good show, and it's clear to see all the love and care MAPPA put in their work, and with only 4 episodes out this could easily become an initial fumble rather than an prolonged issue, but I felt it should still be pointed out.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but the culling games was my least favorite part of the manga because I found it too confusing to follow and I actually dropped it mid arc because of that and so far, besides the stellar animation, the anime has done little to make it easier to follow along.
Anime onlys don't worry, you will probably still love it, just for me and for now, S3 has not reached the same heights S2 has.
