I heard that DIrector Tomino suffered from depression around early 90s.
That's why Victory Gundam has pessimistic and tragic tastes.
Guillotine is a prime example.

I'm surprised the guillotine turned out to be literally a guillotine. I thought for sure it was just the name for some kind of cool space laser or something like that.

Wow, that ending was truly gruesome. I felt for Uso there. I didn't really even think about how dumb it is that they had a wooden guillotine there, I just thought that, "wow, they are actually going to decapitate that guy! In a Gundam!"

Actually, that fact that it was a real old-school guillotine probably was what made it so horrifying in the first place.

yeah in hindsight the guillotine is alot better than i initially thought. It kind of grows on you as the series goes on because its such a brutal way to kill someone. It does end up becoming a great symbol of fear for the series as a whole. though the bikes are still really fucking stupid

I wouldn't really say a thousand years from now. Victory Gundam is set in UC 153. Funny thing is that so far there's doesn't seem to be a big gap between Victory and 79/Zeta based on technology and life style. Makes you wonder what actually happened between F91 and Victory. It's as if the world didn't advance at all in those 60 years. Guess the only major thing that happened in those 60 years was bring back guillotines.

League Militaire is actually worse than Zanscare Empire at this point. They actually blame the kid for not wanting to kill and they made him watch a beheading, good work.

The Ligue Militaire, especially the old man, is impossible to stand. To a 13 year old kid:
"You piloted the Gundam. Now you're an expert so you gonna pilot it again!"
"Fight to kill."
"Come, there is a public execution!"
and probably others I forgot or yet to come.

Some might find the guillotine too anachronistic but it is clearly used as a strong image by the invaders. The return of the Terror!
The motorbike-like MAs are on the other hand are ... I don't even see what they can offer? The worst must be the squad leader shouting "With those vehicles from the past, we're invincible" or something like that.

Miss Loos living with Chronicle, is it the debut of a possible relationship leading her to the evil side? (or the contrary?)

3.5-/5 The impact of the guillotine suffers from the motorbikes weapons.

edit: @Sapewloth When you look at executions in our era: the last guillotine use was in 1977 and the last execution by hanging in the USAs (I suppose it is still used in several countries) happened in 1996.

I shall warn you:
- wheels more or less rule this show (I think it was a compromise between Tomino's will and the producers imperatives),

PS: Glad you're back into it.

The motorbikes were stupid as fuck but the guillotine was fittingly gruesome as a symbol of terror, if a bit anachronistic.

I really can't stand the Uso suffering though: the way the adults around him treat him enrages me.

The bikes would have been more effective if they were used like the Guntank from far away in a strategic kind of way but going into the frontline and not being able to transform it was mindboggling seeing that kind of strategy.

Aside from Marbet, I don't really like the League Militaire members. Even though past UC protags were forced to pilot the Gundams through similar methods, Uso being forced to somehow just rubs me the wrong way this time.
I'm surprised Katejina's seemingly become Chronicle's housekeeper, especially since Fuala didn't seem to trust her. Hopefully they'll explain how she ended up in that position.

And huh... wasn't expecting the guillotine of Zanscare to be a literal guillotine. I kinda like the contrast between such an old execution device and the futuristic mechs though.

Great episode. I thought the motor bikes was a little ridicules, but it still made for good action.

And honestly, fuck those old guys giving Uso shit. League Militaire members are lucky to have someone who can even polite the Gundam and has gone this far with it considering his age. Yelling at Uso is just pathetic.

Yeah, I always heard Tomino would go through bouts of depression and this series so far is exemplifying it.

Those red bikes certainly give off some Akira aura.

Watching a half-assembled Gundam owning the enemies is pretty funny haha. Uso begging his enemies to be careful so that he doesn't become a killer certainly reminds me of early Kamille (though he was angry about it rather then desperately scared or traumathized)

Another ridiculous name in Gundam tradition: Arbeo Pippiniden

Gundam Victory looks like a smaller version of a prototype Gundam from 0083.

Poor Uso, poor Count. The interrogation method reminded me of a famous scene from a famous movie which I haven't seen despite remembering the scene very well (a guy is forced to watched something as a torture).

Preview for this ep. in ep.6: "The sound of the guillotine. Please watch it!" - oh irony

Damn, this Gundam is going to be pretty dark huh. I didn't expect that. Also at this point it's fuck both sides, there's no excuse to trying brainwashing kid in to being killing machine. That's some jihad shit.

Also didn't expect guillotine to be literally guillotine lol

Some really exciting action in this episode against the bike gang and the last scene was brutal to watch. Despite how different it has been this series has been really promising so far.

They mentioned Guillotines a couple times, but I thought that was just the name of a new weapon or something. That was pretty shocking. A sci-fi series using guillotines still goes hard actually. Wow
