Frieren Fridays are back on the menu! Loved how chill the whole episode was.

I know most manga readers are waiting for that arc, but honestly I'm most excited for the one after it. Shame we're guaranteed to not get it yet with this season only having 10 episodes.

A solid debut, but that’s about it. I do like Frieren, however the narrative is already operating at the very edge of how long it can sustain itself within such a rigid, thoroughly exhausted structure. The work fully embraces what can only be described as one of the contemporary white internet male’s ethnic and cultural fantasy constructs: a world sanitized of everything he fears, resents, or holds prejudice against. Likewise, it deliberately refuses to challenge either the reader or the viewer on any meaningful level (like the element of pure, unambiguous evil devils, deliberately stripped of internal contradiction) rendering its thematic core fundamentally harmless and non-confrontational. That said, this narrative framework is already showing clear signs of fatigue, its beats are predictable, its emotional cadence mechanical. If the anime fails to disrupt or reconfigure this structure, it risks devolving into something repetitive, aesthetically kitsch, and ultimately tedious.

Frieren Fridays are back!

It has been almost 2 years, but seeing Frieren airing once again is like meeting up with an old friend that you haven't seen in a long time. That's the feeling I felt when watching the first episode and seeing Frieren, Fern and Stark travel along their journey, getting involved in one fun adventure or mishap here and there.

The production values are still crisp and beautiful and Evan Call's soundtrack is pure excellence. The new OP from Mrs Green Apple was pretty good, but Milet's ED song was amazing, both for the song and the visual style that they went with.

Overall, this episode was great. This second season might be only 10 episodes long, but I'm so glad that Frieren is back one way or another. =)

Honestly I wasn't big on season 1, it was visually phenomenal and the music was great but that's about it but honestly I've been pleasantly excited for season 2 and this episode was quite good. I mean hell im enjoying a lot of other shows more than this that are airing this season but this is still fairly good.

Music and visuals are still stellar, Stark and Ferns interactions are funny and cute and well Frieren is just. Frieren I guess.

We're so fucking back. I'm all ready for this second season. I have already rewatched the first season and read the manga as well. This was a chill yet good start. It's so weird of Fern to get mad over little things, we hardly see her like this. They should date already. I've rewatched the dub version of the first season, so it feels kinda weird now, the sub version is a lot more relaxing, I like it.

Easily one of my favorite episodes so far because of that Fern and Stark moment at the end. Was getting a little worried that the series was going to become too "battle shonen" with the Naruto-esque exam arc that ended season 1, but glad to see the show hasn't lost any of its original identity or character focus in season 2.

10/10 start to the season. A bit of a bummer to hear the season will only be half the length of season 1, but the same happened with Spy x Family moving from season 1 to season 2, so I guess that's something I'll just have to get used to. Glad the quality is staying high, in any case.

The anime 'GOAT' is back, and that’s excellent!

I loved this first episode; it’s the perfect way to kick off the second season: a little action here, a little calm there, and character development all around.

I really missed the dynamic between Stark and Fern. On the other hand, I didn’t expect them to run into Wirbel so soon; I thought the characters they left behind would take longer to reappear.

As for Frieren, I really liked how the concept of 'I entrust you with my life' is (unsurprisingly) an idea she picked up from Himmel.

Finally, I really liked the opening and ending. I don’t know who directs those sequences, but they’re a genius.

@StateofOhayo Most people already are long caught up with the manga and know the better parts are yet to even come.

The rating is, similarly to season 1, a reflection on most people's expectations for the adaptation, and well, it helps a lot that the adaptation here is nigh perfection in every way they could have polished it up haha

130 comments already is fucking nuts, frieren you are truly iconic.

Days since Frieren last made me cry:0

You know man, this series might genuinely deserve that number 1 all time ranking. Is it truly the best anime ever? I don’t know, but there’s a feeling this show gives you that nothing else in the medium does. I don’t know how to explain it, you just have to experience it and even just this first episode back made me fall in love with the series and cast all over again. We really didn’t do anything, but a simple fetch quest with the group and yet it took us on a roller coaster of emotions in 23 minutes and reaffirmed the special dynamic this cast have.

It’s been talked about before, but it can’t be overstated how cool the way this author handles Stark as a character is. In most shonen shows, characters like stark start off as scaredy cats and grow out of it, becoming these archetypal heroes who can do anything. Stark keeps his fear and “cowardice” and that’s what makes him such a special and relatable character. I’m always taken back to the GoT quote “"Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?" "That is the only time a man can be brave." Stark is constantly afraid of shit and that’s what makes him fighting and protecting Frieren and Fern so special. They’ve placed their lives and trust completely in his hands and he always repays it in kind. True strength is also not just constantly fighting, it’s knowing when to run away and fight another day. There’s no shame in backing down when you’re truly outmatched and coming back more prepared which we see today and in the flashback to Frieren’s OG party. We think of fear as a weakness, but it can also be our greatest strength as we fear losing our loved ones and letting down the people who’ve trusted us.

The other highlight this week was just the way Fern was so obviously concerned about potentially losing stark. She’s never going to be one to come out and directly say it, but the way she looked at the bracelet he got her and how she cherishes it like it’s the most important thing in the world to her 😭, the sheer look of relief on her face when he said he’d stay, fuck it’s so perfect and beautiful. I am so looking forward to another season of yearning and pining between them. The way Frieren looks at Fern’s pining like a proud parent realizing their child is experiencing their first love.. the same first love frieren herself experienced and didn’t realize until it was too late. She knows how precious a moment this is.

Beautifully done first episode.

Frieren being back already feels unreal and the episode flew by like it was five minutes long. Even after the break between seasons, it felt like the story has just carried on like we havnt had to wait. That’s what I love about this series, it just flows so naturally.

As someone who’s reading the manga, seeing everything animated with this level of care is such a treat, and the soundtrack is once again absolutely perfect. Peak has returned, and I can’t wait to look forward to every episode over the next 12 weeks.

It's like we never left...

I can't believe it's been over two years since Season 1 first aired. The way the anime just went back to the nostalgic vibe that many people have come to love was perfection. This episode featured a lot of different things, including a cavern that nullified magic, as well as exploring what the party meant for Stark. Frieren, Fern, and Stark's bond is second to none, and as they mature, I feel as if that bond gets even more important.

Production-wise, no real drop-off there. Despite a new director in Tomoya Kitagawa, taking the reins, the quality is still as good as I remember. It feels like the reunion with an old friend, you miss them when they're gone, but when you see each other again, it seems like the most natural thing in the world.

Frieren is back, I've missed and so has Twitter and MAL apparently with the rating already placing this season at the number 2 spot. First we encounter some crystals that nullify magic which understandably would go for a fortune and then it's a re-encounter with Wirbel at an inn who tries to persuade Stark to join his party at the war considering his abilities.

I like how we already get the dynamic as if the seires had never left. Slow sightseeing, some quirk remarks, Fern pouting, Stark looking sad and all in all a pretty good company between them. This episode in itself showed not only how Stark values Frieren and Fern's encounragement but how Fern trusts him with her life by the way she was holding that bracelet.

Not many episodes left so we should better make the most of them.

We're back and Frieren season 2 still has that inexplicable magic 💖✨

The magic nullifying crystal is so beautiful and overpowered and dangerous as well for magic users.

'Even if you want to run, we run as a party'

Stark carrying both Frieren and Fern was so cute and fun to watch 😄❤️❤️
Himmel in the flashback lifting Frieren and carrying her on his shoulders like it was nothing was adorable.

Fern appreciating her hairclip and bracelet was quite moving.

Wirbel & co seems to be doing okay. You're not stealing Stark from Fern.. no way.

The op by Mrs. Green Apple is lovely and Milet with another pretty ending .

It's sad that we're gonna have only 10 episodes but I guess the animators and the manga need their breather.

IT'S BACK, PEAK IS BACK!
I can't believe the time has finally come! I have been waiting for this for so long! But the wait was worth it, because this 1st episode of the new season of Frieren is amazing!

This whole episode ended up focusing a bit more on Stark and the role he has in the party, and his true feelings about being part of this journey, which makes sense considering the last arc focused more on Fern and Frieren, and Stark didn't have much screentime.
And since Stark is best boy, I was really hoping for a bit more focus on him.

Ahh, this episode reminded me why I love Sousou no Frieren so much. The episode was beautiful, both visually and in terms of the narrative.
In the first half the party ends up in a cavern full of magic nullifying crystals, making Fern and Frieren defenseless, and when a monster that isn't a good match for Stark appears, they all run (or more like, Stark runs and carries Fern and Frieren) out of the cavern. It was once again wholesome to see some of the memories Frieren has of the journey with Himmel and the others, and hear what Himmel says, because he's such a GOAT honestly. Frieren being reminded of that episode where they all run together too was wholesome to see. And as Frieren said, it's much better to run away all together, as a party.

The 2nd half starts with a massive mistake by Stark: he ends up encountering Fern and Frieren while they were taking a bath. The cut of him just bowing and apologizing for that was just so funny, and Fern being like "Oh, I'm not angry", and then they just wouldn't talk to each other xD
It's curious to see that Frieren was worried Stark was travelling with them without really wanting to, and that he actually would be unconfortable with them.
Also, Wirbel appeared again! Stark could catch up with his bro. I wasn't expecting Wirbel to be in his 30s though, and Stark asking him to act more like his age xD
Wirbel tried to recruit Stark once again, but of course our boy wouldn't leave our girls alone, so he once again declined the offer.

That moment in the end of the episode where Stark explains to Fern how important they were for him, and how they saved him from doing something he would end up regretting doing, and actually made him accept his fear, but also being able to act and, in that case, defeat the dragon, was so wholesome to see.

So this episode really ended up exploring the party's dynamics and Stark's view of this journey and how he sees Fern and Frieren, which I think was an amazing way to start the season honestly. Not only that, it made a lot of references from things from the 1st season, like when Stark insulted Frieren when she didn't attack the dragon (she's still holding the grudge xD), of the talk between Stark and Fern the day before they went to defeat the dragon, and also a reference to Sein! I wonder how he is, not sure if he will end up appearing this season.

So this episode maintained the quality of the 1st season, as expected, and I think I don't need to say more than that.

The new opening is incredibly beautiful. I especially like how when the beat of the song gets faster, we start getting cuts to Frieren's journey with Himmel's Party, until the day she went to his funeral, and then the next cut is Stark and Fern making a flower crown to her, while the chorus of the song plays, and in the end of the opening, Frieren just hugs Fern and Stark.
The new ending is also beautiful, not only the song, but also the animation, like, look at that! It's gorgeous! The song just hits you in the feelings, but it also feels a bit epic, just like the adventure Frieren had with Himmel, Heiter and Eisen.
An amazing set of opening/ending, for an amazing show honestly.

I was waiting all day to get some time to be able to watch this episode, and knowing I will be able to watch weekly episode from now on makes me really happy! Frieren is one of my favorite anime ever, so I'm just super glad I am being able to watch this 2nd season, this time while it's still realising.

Edit: Also, considering my birthday is tomorrow, I'm taking this 2nd season of Frieren as an early birthday gift, so THANK YOU MADHOUSE!
This episode was full of beautiful screenshots, so here's one of them! THEY'RE BACK!

Are there only fools in this group? They have money problems and they throw a rock worth the same as a mansion. The rock's effect is 3 meters. The normal formation of a group is the attacker Stark in the vanguard and Frieren and Fern in the rearguard, meaning Stark could be 3 meters ahead with the rock in that position, it wouldn't affect them, and they could sell it and get the money they need for their trip.

Damn slept through the premiere, late for once lol.

Anyway good to have Frieren back even it it's for measly 10 episodes which given the amount of time this was in production for, makes sense. The introduction of magic nullifying crystals. They also applied the secret Joestar technique. Always appreciate more Himmel backstory but Fern reminiscing old times while running for their life was hilarious. OP song is whatever, ED song is much better but I prefer s1 theme songs. Real pretty visuals though.
