SHIGURE : RIN, why not learn how to take care of yourself? Especially if you want people to leave you alone.

RIN opens herself to TOORU. They both have same interests related to breaking curse. She is getting alone fine with TOORU now.

Every episode, TOORU is being questioned about her feelings? It will happen soon for her to realize her feelings.

And here we have chapters 80 & 82, with small part of 81. Looks like they wanted to combine all Rin chapters, so they skipped most of 81. Next episode is chapter 83, I hope they combine it with 81, since they are both important for

So, about this episode. I don't like how they changed Rin's clothes in the scene where Haru talks to her about Tooru. They are either lazy to draw different outfits for Rin or they really love that 1 outfit. They changed it in episode 14 too. Rin has so many pretty outfits in the manga, it's a shame they don't draw some of them. I love the way she dresses (and Haru, they are both so cool and pretty/handsome).

At 15:12 there's a misstranslation again. It's obvious from watching the hugging scene that Rin WASN'T clutching Tooru's HAND. The manga translation is: "So very tighly. That hand that came and grabbed hold... looked so painful. All I could do was hold her."

At 19:28 another misstranslation. Rin asks: "Will it break like that?", but the manga translation is: "Being like that, you don't fall apart?", which sounds more accurate to me.

Anyway, it's nice to see Rin and Tooru bonding and Rin slowly opening up to Tooru. And we see a bit of Tooru's dark troubles, when she can't answer Rin what is most precious to her. And later she has that nightmare about her mom. It's nice of Rin to think that it would be nice for Tooru to get someone who will gently open the door behind which she is quietly falling apart (like Haru has always been there for Rin).

Ugh, next episode can't come soon enough. Can't wait for that arc to begin! <3

Just checked for manga pics of Rin because of you Maybe some of the textures of her clothes are a bit hard to animate?

At least Rin is opening up her heart now. She would definitely make a perfect pair with Tohru to break the curse, even though it's hella risky!
Great episode as always! :D

Don't think I didn't notice that subtle blush from Tohru when Kyou addressed her for being too obvious. God, this show has turned me into such a shipper D:

Wonderful episode once again... how many times have I said this already lol. Honestly, I thought it would be more difficult to have Rin finally opening up but I guess I underestimated Tohru's motherly charm and in that regard, Rin's explanation about the kind "aura" she exudes couldn't have been more on point.
This said, the hug they shared was truly heartwarming and the way how the scene was portrayed with the sunrise as background was simply beautiful. Rin is not alone anymore in her search for freedom and I couldn't be more happy about it.

From there on, the interactions they had were quite lovely to see and Tohru's idea of them teaming up against the curse sure sounded interesting. Hopefully, Rin will give this idea a second chance since it would be a nice way to strengthen their new found bond as well.

But that last scene tho... Tohru's breaking point is in sight it seems.

It's odd how the characters actually feel less developed as this goes on. Yuki and Kyou mostly exist as catchphrases and Tohru is flanderized into the ultimate good around a crunchy center of darkness. Guess it's hard to stay people when you've got over a dozen other characters to cover.

They've come right out and said the curse is the bond this episode, and that'd be fine except... it's not the curse we've seen. Getting hurt by forced togetherness is an interesting thing to explore, but at least half the characters are broken instead cause their parents abused them in one way or another. It could depend how forcefully fated they are. Ruining all other relationships would be one way to ensure the zodiacs stay together, but then it becomes a big question why Tohru can overcome it. You'd think fate powers that make your parents hate you could at least overcome an already super unlikely turn of events like reuniting after her past with Yuki.

You can't do it all alone. It's very tough to be all alone. Rin was so alone for all this time. She faced this pain behind that closed door. The one that Haru would eventually gently push open. Rin needed someone like like Tohru to comfort her, someone who knows what it's like to be lonely too and loves other people so that the loneliness doesn't spread. Tohru and Rin are the ultimate gal pal duo in fruits basket. They're so alike in many ways as we saw this episode. Tohru knows the pain that Rin has undergone in her life. Just like with Kyo and Yuki now we see how Tohru is the person that people lean on when they're at their lowest. Tohru comforts people and let's them take a load off. The big scene with them this episode where Rin tells Tohru there's no way to break the curse is a big moment I've wanted to see animated. Tohru will not stop meddling!! Rin holding onto Tohru so tight after just accepting her as a kind person who Rin can trust with her loneliness.

Loved them together this episode. There are such a power duo, even Tohru says they should team up to break the curse! Tohru realizing when Rin asks her that her feelings are all jumbled up, the curse is starting to break like Shigure said but Tohru is still having the words of Akito hang over her. The blood ties have them bound tight. Tohru herself also still dealing with her own loneliness of losing her mom. It hurts to see her so hurt by the last memories she has. Rin said it perfectly that I hope Tohru finds someone like Haru did for Rin to gently open the door to Tohru loneliness.

I've always wondered if Tohru is supposed to be the hypothetical true god. The child who wants harmony and inclusivity (with Kyo). Good to see that Rin and Tohru can finally rely on each other, although Rin remains a huge Tsundere. Also wonder if Rin saw a flash of her parents in Tohru's eyes when she asked the big question.

I hope Rin meets the trio/Tohru's friends. She seems like she'd fit in great.

There have been very subtle hints now for a few episodes that Tohru is also falling for Kyo. And Yuki knows that the feelings are mutual. So he has taken a step back and he is trying to bond with his council team. I think the girl who doesn't talk much in that team will end up with Yuki and Tohru will end up with Kyo if all goes well. The last scene of this ep, Tohru looks beyond her room to the opposite door. I think it's Kyo's room? Maybe that's what's most precious to her after her Mom.

I replayed it a few times I'm pretty sure right across from her door it's just the stairs leading downstairs and not another room...

Anyhow....so....yeah....looks like Tohru is starting to mentally break down...The words Rin said towards the end while she was eating the jelly also seem to hint at this and that flash of Akito when Rin asked Tohru why (though my memory is so bad I can't even remember Akito's exact words that are probably bothering Tohru...)

I wonder if there are indeed people out there in real life that you'd be drawn to; similar to how Isuzu was drawn to Tohru. Like a child to a mother.

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!

This is getting boring, I don't even care about the characters to the point Akito seems so much more interesting to me. The whole bond being curse makes absolutely no sense. It's not easy to break free from the family you are born into but the relation itself can never be broken no matter what you try to do. I thought that turning into animals was a curse.

It amuses me how this title literally makes Tohru a saint with every new arc. No, I'm not complaining, but it still looks pretty funny. Until then, I thought that only shonen MCs like Naruto could literally be taken as the second coming of Jesus.

Given that I was born in the Year of the Horse and therefore always wanted to learn more about Rin, I am a little embarrassed that she literally turns out to be as edgy tsundere as I was at her age.

It's ok, we all had our edgy phase. Mine was when I entered puberty, but I was honestly just plain rude most of the time.

better, and more calm than previous episode. A little more clue on the zodiac curse, so it has been round a long long, makes the members stay together, and burdens them.

this episode also reminds me that many people need a Tohru in their lives. She's one reason why I keep watching this show, even if some episodes feel like shit.

glad to see Rin eat the jello. :)

i loved when shigure said this: why not learn how to take care of yourself, especially if you want people to leave you alone.

Tohru is always sweet, but she stands her ground on the things she believes in and fights for and that's why we love our heroine ;A; I'm glad Rin finally gave in to Tohru's aura and being of unconditional love <3

A sad Tohru breaks mi heart Q~Q no sads, Tohru TT^TT no sads </3

I was hoping Kyo was sleeping soundly in his bed when Tohru was peeking in the door after her nightmare and maybe even getting up to comfort her :'(

On a happier note, even though it was just an imagination/flashback, I got so excited to see Aya xD Miss him so much. WE NEED MOAR AYA!!!!!!

Rin likes the jello :') Tohru made so many flavors for her to choose from. She's such a sweetheart.

This episode and the last one are among the best episodes for S2, I was really looking forward to seeing Rin after she first appeared early on and this was everything I wanted and more~~

I really like Rin design, but also her personality seems very interesting, there is no denying how emotional the midpoint of this episode was, Tohru does what she does because she understands how it feels and the end of this episode delivered it very well.

It's been over 40 episodes, and I still don't get Akito's deal. Is it really just divinity that forces all the Zodiac members to follow rank and file? The whole of Fruits Basket seems to theme itself around abusive relationships, but I think it would be more potent if these instances of abuse were caused by each abuser's own actions, rather than all of the show's misery being driven by the family head. It implies that simply taking down Akito would solve everything all at once, a solution that's much too simple.

Although I don't recall it ever being stated, I'm guessing the Souma family has some political or economic influence that makes it exempt from...just about everything I would assume? It would explain why getting outside assistance has never been brought up, but I still don't get it. Really, what's Akito's deal? I'm guessing it's another case of childhood abuse, and it's gonna come down to a violent hugging session. But, only time will tell.

Thank God we have somebody like Tohru to help out Rin here in this episode, I mean that hug that she gave Tohru really says it all for me, it's comforting and she's literally had her real emotions under lock and key and to see her tear up is incredible. She just needed someone to reassure her is all. And I honestly think Tohru is Rin’s counterpart because they are so similar in many ways, from being alone and the former knowing exactly what kind of pain Rin was in.

The curse is about to start breaking very soon, mark my words. This episode was emotional and hopeful for the future and was less heartbroken like the last episode I think there’s a saying that applies to Fruits Basket in general: “It’s darkest before the dawn.” Akito may have the Sohmas in her clutches for now, but she hasn’t won yet.

On a sidetone it was funny to see Yuki deal with the council in front of Haru especially when Kimi was speaking over the intercom to taunt the fan club. XD Otherwise another brilliant episode all around for me.
