We all know that Hiro lacks empathy but still seems to care for a few people who are close to him. Like how he "fell in love"(?) with his classmate after she showed kindness to him.

Yet, I wonder... Can someone with Hiro's mindset really get all lovey-dovey?

I've heard some people say that in real life, people who are that awful are awful TO EVERYONE with no exceptions. I'd tend to think the same thing... What about you?

He is not in love.
That girl accepted him for what he is and that makes him feel comfortable around her and her grandma, nothing more.

But he has no heart (literally) so he's not in love.
The girl shion is just a replacement for his dead mother. He projected all his feelings for his mom on Shion and her grandmother.

I guess Hiro doesn't want to accept the fact that his mom is dead already and killed herself for his actions.

No it was a very fitting part of his character, especially cause they do imply its more or less a replacement for his mother who was the only one who made him feel alive. He wasnt actually in love with her she was more or less his own scapegoat for his lack of humanity.

Everything with hiro's character has felt consistent, hes a sociopath who has always been dealing with the idea that he hasnt felt human, then when hes actually transformed into something inhuman and granted powers no person should have has gone way off the deep end because of it. All his instances of turning over a new leaf when his mom and his GF convinced him otherwise were not anything like a real attempt at redemption, it was his own selfish desires. He was going to stop killing cause his mother would abandon him originally, then he was going to stop killing cause his GF replaced his mother figure as someone who accepts him. Ultimately all hiro has longed for the entire series is to just feel alive, its just in his skewed mind the only time he ever felt alive was when that man died in front of him.

I actually think hiro is a really strong villain, i usually hate sociopathic hurr durr evil characters but I genuinely like how they have played with his selfishness ALMOST putting him on the right track and his general pursuit of trying to feel alive to some degree.

Hiro is insane, borders of realism do not apply to him. Neither they do to Inuyashiki, more or less.

I don't think he's in love. He really didn't show any signs of being in love. The girl was the only person there for him after he lost his mother and best friend. While he was hiding out he even thought about killing them.

What we call "falling in love" is just a chemical reaction that takes place in the brain to reinforce procreation. Passing of ones genes. Hiro is incapable of passing on his genes. So he can not "fall in love."

despite of his robotic things, i think it's ok if both him and inuyashiki still has some emotions and feeling left, as it series tell.

The "psycopath/sociopath" side of him may affect what he done after all, but i think despite of bad thing someone had, i believe there are a little piece of kindness left here like he did.

Hiro isn't in love. He just loves the fact she accepted him for who he was. "The world will be a worse place for me if this person who cares about me dies" he doesn't care about her, just what she offers him.

I feel like a lot of people didn't understand Hiros character curve because of that miss-understanding. He stopped killing for her because killing for him means close to nothing. It would be like someone saying they hate that you drink orange juice and asking you to give that up or losing them. Orange juice means so little to you that it's worth giving up just to keep that person interested in you, right?

He likes the idea of people loving him but has no actual love or emotion in return for them. His mother offered him over-whelming amounts of love throughout his life and when she died he projected those feelings onto the girl who liked him.
This is an official MAL signature. Monogatari is the best anime. Thank you for your time.
