A story about what happens after popular fairy tales end. Ever wondered whether Cinderella was actually happy with her marriage? What did Little Red Riding Hood do after visiting grandma? This manga has the answers. It is an exploration of how "Happily Ever After" isn't quite that. One of the main themes is that for beauty to exist, ugliness must exist as well.
I liked the premise and the main character, Wilhelm. The settings and side characters were also very cool, and I love the character designs and aesthetics.
However, I found the story's execution lacking. Most side characters get discarded quickly, and interesting plot points
...
like Snow White's jealousy get immediately dropped. The only characters who get some development are the brothers Grimm, and it's not much (due, in part, to the series's length).
The fact that it's just 10 chapters long and it still decided to go with a "fairy tale of the week" format doesn't help. I feel like it would've benefited from a more intimate approach, with way less characters and plot points.
For example, there's a character called "the devil" who is really interesting, but I felt like there was no resolution to their narrative arc.
This manga would've benefitted a lot from being longer. As it stands, it has a cool concept and some heartwarming moments, but it's too ambitious for its length.
If you're interested in the premise, it's worth a check because of the aesthetics and how short it is but keep your expectations in check.
