It's OK. Not great. Not even really good. It's very edible slop.

It's a silly, over-the-top delinquent/transfer student slice of life romcom. Flimsy premise, very basic formula that it never really graduated from, very tropey, very derivative. The character designs and overall art style are refreshing, definitely inspired by 70s shoujo . The main pair were fairly cute together and that alone kept me turning pages. There was really no plot to speak of at all. It delivered pretty consistently on its premise for a while, then started to drag in later chapters, particularly with the introduction of that fanclub girl who i really didn't ... like or understand the inclusion of. The ending was very abrupt and didn't land particularly hard, and to me it sniffed of a cancellation or the author simply getting tired and wanting to move on to other projects. 13 chapters doesn't sound like a lot, but these are long chapters. I suppose i was starting to tire of it too. Nothing really high stakes or particularly heavy happened at any point in this manga, and don't come here expecting complex or compelling writing. The romance was, likewise, mostly fluff. It was, if anything, a bit boring. I can give it a recommend because it's at least not gross or offensive. It could be a bit funny, but it wasn't ever, like, laugh out loud funny. If you're very in to this genre and you want to read something that you aren't going to chuck across the room in utter disgust two or three panels in, this is a great palette cleanser. It's also great for working out your eye muscles, from all the rolling they'll be doing. Just don't come in expecting your next favorite thing.

I'm caught somewhere between calling this a fairly derivative but smart and focused coming-of-age romantic drama and writing it off altogether as under-aged smut.

I did finish it, which is more than i can say for most of the yuri I pick up, and I think i could have read this with a much clearer conscience if i wasn't myself way older than these girls. As it was, i felt it occasionally veered from tasteful into voyeuristic or erotic, and i had the sense multiple times that maybe i should put it down. Still, it never felt totally offensive and if anything the main character was ... frequently played off to be a lot more perverse than the work ever really was. With that said I really don't think we needed to see these girls naked as often as we did. Some kind of physically titillating action happened in just about every or every other chapter. But hey, if you're looking for that, points for 7-kakan Gentei Konojo, right? It was all fairly well done IMO and maintained a fair bit of relatable humor even in the racy scenes.

Nagi's backstory was lowkey a bit horrifying to me but very compelling. The storyboarding was fairly good i thought. The character designs were fairly tropey, particularly in the case of the background characters, but managed to feel distinct and just lifelike enough to avert the usual disaster. There wasn't a whole lot of development or focus on characters outside the main pair, and this felt appropriate given the limited length of the thing and the weakness of those characters. The humor landed more than it missed and was surprisingly crude, the romance mostly landed but stuck pretty close to industry tropes.

Ultimately, i'm tempted to give this somewhere between a 6 and a 7, and part of me is leaning toward that 7. Its short length bumps it up quite a lot in the sense that it delivered everything it was trying to do without meandering or wasting my time and then wrapped itself up and let me go to read something else. I'm gonna keep it at a 6 because the ending did feel a bit abrupt and the work as a whole was a bit tropey. I'd recommend this easily to anyone who reads a lot of GL and isn't very discerning about it; it's probably better than most of what you're used to reading. To anyone else, I'd say probably give it a pass.

It's a solid 5/10 but I'm recommending it because when i ran out of chapters to read my response was "really?" and this is the second time i've done that with this work
so obviously i want to keep reading it. i don't want to be out of chapters
and i'm like not even nonchalant about it. when i checked in and saw there were more chapters to read i was like "okay, nice!" and then i read them and now i'm out and i really want to keep reading it already.

nothing particularly sharp or distinct in the character designs or worldbuilding so far
suzu is literally just another moe bumpkin
the spooky monster girl is a little bit more interesting but nothing groundbreaking
i like the way her face opens up, that's neat
and that recent panel with the dove was a fairly interesting bit of backstory

but my expectations for this are low, low, low
i'm definitely not here for the romance, actually I'd prefer if that went out the window. Everything i've seen so far in this is industry trope, straight off the production line
i'm not really here for the ghosts or the horror, which are fairly uninspired so far
it's not particularly witty
and the writing isn't particularly smart
i just ended up invested anyway (so i guess it's doing something right)
i think a 5 is perfect for it actually

I'm probably going to wait until it finishes publication and then check back in on it, if i can remember to do that (i won't)

great premise, poor execution is how i'd put it.
the worldbuilding sort of failed. The characters' pasts were vague and disjointed and got minimal, exposition-heavy development far too late in the story. Without other major characters to play with, or a well-explored past to draw from, it was difficult to draw a frame of reference to Makoto's and Hana's present condition. It felt like the author started on this with a very basic idea and pulled a story together as they went.
It's rare for me to say that something was 'too short', but i think that's really it. There was just no detail here. Nothing was ... well-elaborated. These characters didn't get a whole lot of development, and it was hard for me to feel more than a vague resignation. Honestly it felt like there wasn't a whole lot that got explored here beyond the basic theme of coming to terms with the death of a loved one.
Anyway, this could have been a lot deeper and a lot better than it was if, well, someone else had written it. I came away feeling a bit disappointed with the lot of it. The art and character designs were not memorable, and the ending the whole thing was building up to failed to deliver any special emotional payload for me. I came away feeling underwhelmed.

There's nothing offensive in here, but there's nothing really impressive in here either. It felt very uninspired.
it's short enough to not be a total waste of time. I wish i could give this higher praise, because i was excited to check it out.

i'm giving gantz a 6 actually

the fanservice is ubiquitous, voyeuristic and truly gross - really the way gantz treats its girls does not sit well with me. The action is sometimes visually hard to follow thanks to just how dark the panels can often be. The plot is nothing to write home about - it's not quite as deep or mysterious as it pretends to be. Gantz is certainly not afraid to kill off its characters in heinous and bloody ways; in fact it does so with such flippance and regularity that I quickly stopped getting invested when someone new showed up. Gantz cannot rightfully ... claim the themes of tragedy or psychological horror - it has the feeling of a blood sport.

so why am i giving it a 6?




because it was morbidly entertaining.

the comedic timing is perfect. The musical scenes are an acid trip
it's just a really great watch
You might not like it if you dislike waiting more than 1 or 2 seconds for something to happen on the screen, but that's not Ongaku's fault, that's your fault

In my own half-hearted defense, i was very young, and the art was very pretty and all the characters are cute

something between a 4 and a 5. I'd give it that. It's largely very typical as far as this genre is concerned, and the aforementioned art bumps it up a bit.

it's, like, fine, baby's first spicy shojo manga. Later on it's baby's first guilty pleasure, then baby's first irredeemable trash. I would not read beyond the first handful of chapters if i came across it today, but I'm older and ... wiser and also not a teenage pile of hormones anymore. I think everyone ought to experience this rollercoaster at least once, at least until they feel like hopping off to throw up.

This started out so very, very strong, and fumbled the ball so very, very hard after the first arc. It felt like they had absolutely no idea where to take the story after the main character left the dome city. There were weird attempts to introduce shonen action elements that had no business being there and that were eventually dropped without ever really being addressed. Everything that happened in the wasteland was disjointed and frankly the bulk of it didn't seem to have much of a purpose in the overarching story (such as there was). It never fully succeeded in unraveling the mystery it promised ... to deliver at the beginning. Instead it just spat out an answer near the end. It meandered along without a cohesive narrative and then suddenly tried to wrap everything up into one package and it's clearly left a lot of people confused and disappointed. I'd STILL recommend it, because that first arc is fantastic and still a perfectly enjoyable watch after that if you give up and turn your brain off and watch it like it's literally any of the other aura farming slop anime that people seem to love so much. It features a lot of great visuals and is generally pretty to look at, and the major characters are all pretty interesting, so, points for that. But, yeah, talk about wasted potential.

This is the patient zero for every trope i hate in modern shonen anime. It didn't create most of those tropes, but it's the work that put them all in the same show and inspired every mediocre time waster that came after it. The author saw how popular Hokuto no Ken was getting and immediately decided to entirely reinvent his own perfectly good show to ride its coattails. He knew absolutely nothing about martial arts, but he was fantastic at creating an action comic book formula that fit into a weekly release schedule. This thing getting popular is the worst thing that's ever happened to ... anime, short of maybe Sword Art Online. I watched this on the TV growing up and didn't love it even back then, and coming back later to give it a fair shot from start to finish did not end up being rewarding. Every story beat and decision that happens in this anime revolves around coping with the work's insane weekly release format, and it really shows.

If you like the utterly mindless slop genre that DBZ created, you'll probably like DBZ, which is also mostly mindless slop. It's a brain-off empty aura-farming type of show, and that appeals to a lot of people and it very well might appeal to you. If you're a grown adult and that's not your thing, i don't see how there's anything in here that you will find worthwhile and you'll probably come out feeling bored and a bit insulted, like i did. It's great for kids, though.

As far as i can tell this webcomic is about nothing. It doesn't know what it's about. It doesn't have anything to say. It's formula without substance. It's definitely not a serious drama and not really even a romance. The action is mindless, pointless, and repetitive in all the worst ways. It has no respect for your time. It exists only to print the next chapter. It's just so tedious. It didn't need 544 chapters. I don't think it even needed 20.

There's plenty of actual BL out there if that's what you were hoping for - you won't find it here. It's by no means ... offensive - it's far too safe to evoke offense - but I didn't love it at any point. Dropping this to pick up something else was like finishing one breath and taking another. Noblesse, i consign you to the abyss of mediocrity, where you belong.
