Shiki
|
Both are vampire stories with a nice dash of horror and how vampires are trying to build a society especially tailored to them albeit with a somewhat different approach. Shiki is closer to horror while Dance in the Vampire Bund goes somewhat into the ecchi-ish side, but both are good stuff for fans of vampires.

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru
|
Both are comedy anime made by the same studio (Shaft) whose protagonist are cheerful black haired girls whose last name is Arashiyama who work at a maid café, with a similar comedy style and animation. Natsu no Arashi adds some supernatural and time travel elements and Soremachi has some mystery elements, but both are still quite similar in most aspects.

Bishounen Tanteidan
|
Both are from the same studio (Shaft), director (Akiyuki Shinbou) and based on the novels of the same writer (NisiOisiN), with a harem-ish/reverse harem-ish cast and mystery. Bishounen Tanteidan is lighter on fanservice and overall themes, while Monogatari is darker overall, but I'd recommend each other if one liked the other anime.

They're both epilepsy-inducing surreal 1990's 3D animations with electronic music. Shinkansen is just a song though and Compu Movie is a compilation. For fans of early CGI.

Both are animated by Shaft, from a Kirara manga, which of course turns them into a heckton of moeblobs doing cute things. Yeah and both also feature girls going to an art school and cooking, but Hidamari Sketch focusing more on art and Koufuku Graffiti focusing on Cooking. I recommend each anime to CGDCT fans.

Kanon (2006)
|
Asides from the violence and horror, Kanon reminds me of Higurashi in a few aspects: There is a high female to male character ratio, but the story isn't a harem precisely. Each arc focuses on one particular girl. The beginning of the story is a comedy that slowly turns into tragedy. The story takes place in a small town, and in one particular season (summer in Higurashi and winter in Kanon) Each girl slowly loses their sanity for an undisclosed reason. And the ending in both stories involve a comatose character. So basically, Higurashi seems to have been influenced by Kanon in their source materials.

Save for the fantasy and harem elements, both have the same concept of a kid that somehow turned into a teacher in a middle/high school, with a group of quirky students. Both were made by the same studio as well so you might like the other series if you liked one of them.

I make this recommendation rather on aesthetic rather than plot reasons. Among all anime made by studio Shaft, both Negima!? and ef share a similar animation style that looks incredibly detailed for the era they were made. If you're a fan of studio Shaft please check both anime, they're so well animated that you'd hardly believe they were made almost 20 years ago.

Exploring how screwed up is an individual vs exploring how screwed up is society overall, with both series having the protagonist as a mere spectator, althoguh Irabu's goal is healing or at least helping people with whatever mental problems they have, while Kino barely intervenes, but both leaving the spectator to reflect on what happens in the series. Both can be resumed as: The world is not beautiful, therefore, it is/You're not perfect, therefore you are. Heavily recommended if you want some thought provoking stories.

Katte ni Kaizou

They're both from the same studio, based on the manga of the same author, as well as having the same type of comedy of taking something simple but slowly taking it to the utmost extreme. They could perfectly be a spin-off of each other, or be considered the same anime but with different characters and setting. The only noticeable difference is Katte ni Kaizou having a more raunchy comedy and less social critique but if you liked Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and wish you had a fourth season, this will surely calm your itch for a while.

Bishounen Tanteidan

Both are about of bishounen detectives solving mysteries with unusual solutions. Both series are quite heavily in dialogue and make use of the supernatural powers one of their members have (Reijirou and Mayumi sharing supernatural vision, for example). Now let me note that Mouryou no Hako is more grim and adult compared to the cheery and colorful Bishounen Tanteidan (The first being Seinen and the second Shoujo-ish), but fans of detective stories will surely enjoy both.
