The female leads in both are supportive and caring with both male leads also being kind. Both series are wholesome and sweet with no fanservice. In both the relationship gradually develops and is built on understanding each other.

Shoujo, school-life romance. The main male character has a delinquent appearance but is actually kind-hearted. Everyone misunderstands him, but the female lead is willing to see his true self. Though they come from completely different worlds, they meet and connect.

The main girl characters' vibes and personalities remind me a lot of each other. If you like the personality, design, and story of one, you'll like the other.

short girl, tall guy. girl loving desserts, guy-girl connection by desserts

Both are wholesome romance series with great visuals that avoid relationship drama and misunderstandings. The MCs are also misunderstood by others in both even if for very different reasons, while still having good friends. Biggest difference is that A Sign of Affection being shoujo has female lead as POV character while in Fragrant Flower the male lead is POV since its shonen.

Both animes are shoujo, school life romance that focus on gentle, genuine connections. In both series, the female lead is very kind, sincere, open-hearted person. The guy sees the world as boring as he is misunderstood, but once he meets the main character, their world starts to change.

Both are shoujo, school life romance. The main guy character looks like a delinquent, so people either hate or are afraid of him. The main girl sees past the surface and realizes he's actually a kind, thoughtful person. Kono Oto is more musical focused, while Kaoru Hana is more slice-of-life romance. Very cute duo dynamic.

Both Blue Box and The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity are extremely wholesome romance animes. If you loved Fragrant Flower and have yet to see Blue Box I would 100% recommend watching it as soon as you can. While they differ on themes to a degree because Blue Box has a heavy influence of sports I think they share the fact they have amazingly written characters.

Both are very wholesome shows that tell a similar journey in their romance. Both pairings demonstrate how they helped one another.

both slow-burn, gentle and very sweet, heart warmin first-love stories. one is more from the male, the other up until the last ep from the female perspective. personally i think "a star brighter than the sun" is the better one. i do not understand the rating. it dives a bit deeper into the insecurities of both characters and the back-and-forth-moving-slow makes more sense than in "the fragrant flower...", which - especially in the beginning - is boarderline boring at times. "a star brighter.." is also more mature in its style and genuinely funny at few occasions, which makes it more light-hearted and human.

Kaguya Sama is a bit different from Kaoru Hana. It's mostly focusing comedy, witty expression and slice of life elements. Romantic issues are placed at in the background while humor takes the main role.

If you enjoyed Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, you might also like The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten. Both stories focus on a wholesome romance where the female lead has a soft, shy side and gradually opens up to the male protagonist. The main difference is that Alya’s unique charm comes from expressing her hidden feelings in Russian, while Angel Next Door emphasizes the warmth of daily life and small, caring gestures. Both series deliver a sweet, relaxing atmosphere that will leave you smiling.

They don't have a similar theme, but the atmosphere and feeling of watching one is so similar to the other. Both are so sensitive about feelings, friendship and how bullying can make you have troubles. My favourite part is the strong mothers of both animes!! They are super lovely

Both are very good romances though Toradora leans a bit more into the comedy. The main comparison is that Rintarou is VERY similar to Ryuuji in Toradora as both look intimidating but are genuinely really nice to everyone around them.

Similar in that the main male character is seen as a delinquent and disliked by others, while the main female character keeps an open mind and befriends him despite the rumors. They come from two different worlds but are willing to step into each other’s lives. Yamada leans more into magic and school-life romance, while Kaoru Hana is a classic school-life romance.

Fruits Basket and Kaoru Hana are similar in that they’re both shoujo, school-life romance anime. In both, the main female character is timid, soft-spoken, pure-hearted, and very positive. She sees only the good in people and refuses to believe rumors. One of the male characters who falls for her has a delinquent-like appearance that makes others scared of him, but she alone understands his true, gentle personality. He’s drawn to her innocence. The series makes you feel bubbly and warm.

romance school life, where the main guy is a feared delinquent, but meets another person who likes them for who they are. everyone is telling them to stay away from each other, how the delinquent is "dangerous," but the crush refuses to give in.

Both have protagonists that look scary to other people but meet someone who thinks differently of them. They have similar romances and pacing. Both emphasize opening up to their friend group and doing things for the first time in friendships and relationships.

A "forbidden romance" story, where both protagonists attend schools/dorms that are feuding and are at odds with eachother for a long time, yet that does not stop them from forming relationship.
