Synopsis

Pereshati Zahardt may be the sole heir to her late father's county, but she can at least rely on her stepmother, stepsister Reina, and loving fiancé Schiff. However, she soon finds herself proven wrong, landing her on her deathbed. Schiff wedded Pereshati at the behest of Reina—his true lover—so they could promptly inherit Pereshati's fortune and title. Defenseless, Pereshati can only watch as her loved ones turn against her.

Shockingly, Pereshati somehow wakes up in the past, mere months after her father's passing. Although uncertain whether the betrayal she experienced was real, she takes precautions moving forward in her second chance. She seeks out Grand Duke Therdeo Lapileon, a war hero with a bloody reputation, and proposes a one-year contract marriage that will ward off their respective unwanted suitors.

Unfortunately, Pereshati fails to account for the Lapileons' family secret: their blood is toxic to everyone who comes in contact with it. Thus, Therdeo resists her request until they discover that Pereshati is immune to Lapileon blood. Under the temporary protection of her in-laws, Pereshati must find a way to enact her revenge. However, she also hopes that she can mend the broken bonds of her new family.

A lot of love and care went into this Manwha adaptation. It is a very grounded story in a very fantastical setting. I love how the characters are set up, grow and change throughout the story and interact with one another. Every decision that is made by a character is logical through their point of view of the situation.

The main character especially is someone who you can slowly come to love throughout reading the story. Seeing her overcome challenge after challenge, not because she has some special power but because she has a kind heart and a good intelligence. Her decisions are again logical ...

Plot summary: Pereshati, murdered by her family and lover, returns to her past-self's body before her murder and makes to set things right. She meets the Lapileon family, one with an old, rich bloodline -- old, rich, toxic, and cursed. And she marries its Duke, Therdeo... at least for a year, until she's safe.

Overall rating: 8/10; so far, this story makes for a great drama/thriller with lots of mystery and tension. There isn't much humor in this return-to-the-past manhwa unlike many other comics of a similar trope. The moral of the story: communicate

The characters.
The female lead, protagonist feels almost completely useless.
She’s pretty incompetent.
Almost nothing she’ve done was 100% based on knowledge but 10% knowledge and 90% luck.
It feels like it was a reincarnation story rather than regression.
For nearly a hundred chapters, the mood stays heavy and melancholic, which makes the pacing feel even slower.

Moreover she’s stuck in an awkward middle ground.
