A mish-mash of various tropes are mixed into a generic murim manhwa with a very boring main character.
Plot
Our MC is Murim alliance leader's genius son. At a very young age, he gets poisoned and wakes up in the body of heavenly demon cult leader's son. This guy has a reputation of being a spoiled playboy drug-addict and as cult leader goes missing, many members of the cult are trying to take over by eliminating MC. MC decides to become cult leader, fix his reputation and figure out how he ended up in this body.
Review
It's good enough if you just want some filler murim manhwa. ,
...
but the execution felt lacking.
Positives
- The plot is fun and a nice time-loop like twist in the story during the flashback arc (somewhere around chapter 100)
- There's some hilarious characters like the merchant pavilion master or the shota-psycho master.
Negatives
- major flaw is the plain "nice guy" MC with no unique traits. His design, expressions, personality are all middling and forgettable. In the same vein, the villains are also trash and equally boring.
- The setting of "demon cult" is wasted, as the story does nothing unique with it. Most characters don't feel much different to the orthodox sect characters.
- There's just this air of blandness around this manhwa. It's been two days since I read this manhwa, and I cannot remember any hype/good moments. There's nothing memorable/unique to remember from this and it just feels like a big blurry mix of the countless murim manhwas out there.
If you have read most of the good murim manhwas, this series is not going to surprise you. Most of the series is highly formulaic and won't offer anything new. But if you are bored, and just want a "good enough" generic martial arts series, then, this is perfect for you.
